In the F-2 building, we work in an open plan setting, complete with breakout spaces. Children work independently and collaboratively to reach their full potential. Each year level has access to an intereactive television, a laptop and iPad program provided by the school. We have a library, fully stocked with books for all reading abilities and interests.

Incursions and Excursions

At Broadmeadows Primary School, we offer students a range of academic and practical rich learning experiences to ensure that our students are fully engaged in their learning. Each term, students are offered these learning experience outside of the classroom with our incursions and excursions.
This year, students in grades F-2 have experienced:
  • CERES
  • Bundoora Park
  • Scienceworks

Curriculum

Numeracy

Numeracy at Broadmeadows Primary School focuses on developing the proficiency strands of Understanding, Fluency, Problem Solving and Reasoning in our students. These proficiency strands are an integral part of numeracy teaching and learning across the three content strands, Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry and Statistics and Probability. We use an instructional model to ensure that all students are working within their Zone of Proximal Development.

Reading

Reading at Broadmeadows Primary School focuses on consolodating crucial reading skills in our students. The English curriculum is built around the three interrelated strands of Language, Literature and Literacy. These strands develop understanding and knowledge in Reading and Viewing, and Speaking and Listening. We use an instructional model known as 'The Independent Reading Model' to support students in becoming independent readers. In the F-2 area, we focus on supporting students in the building blocks necessary to develop their knowledge and understanding of the relevant reading comprehension strategies to ensure success in their schooling.

Writing

Writing at Broadmeadows Primary School focuses on developing critical writing skills in our students. The English curriculum is built around the three interrelated strands of Language, Literature and Literacy. These strands develop understanding and knowledge in Writing. We participated in a pilot program to develop the Teaching and Learning Cycle. This program has been developed across our region and is now integrated in the teaching of writing at our school. Students build a range of knowledge about particular topics, learn the structure of the text type and draft their text according to their learning. This enables our students to develop their writing and learn different text structures and features along the way.
